URGENT APPEAL Dear Supporter, I hope that you are keeping well in the challenging times in which we now live. The Covid19 pandemic has resulted in many charities struggling to raise funds to continue with their projects. We are in the same situation as we usually hold at least two fundraising events each year bringing in around £3,000. Last year’s Summer Concert and Quiz did just that and we forwarded those funds to the three schools - nursery/primary and secondary - for necessary renovations and painting of the classrooms, as well as general support of staff and children. We urgently need to replace these missing funds. |
Amongst other areas of support the trustees of Waterloo Schools Charity began a university bursary scheme in 2014 shortly after receiving donations in the memory of Dr Laurie Read. Now that the government is paying school fees this, we feel, is the way forward. I’m delighted to tell you that two recipients of the Dr. Read bursary - Christopher Cole and Eku Williams - have now graduated from Fourah Bay University with honours in their law degrees. Christopher has been supported by the Charity throughout his school life and we are delighted that he has now qualified as a barrister. We have awarded five further bursaries this year to three girls and two boys. |
All of the work that Waterloo Schools Charity has done since its beginning in 2005 has only been possible because of the support given by you all. For this I and the children and my fellow trustees say thank you for your interest and your generosity. We could not have done this without you. So this is why I am appealing for your help. After 15 years we now find that our income is down and Covid19 has also had an effect on donations. If you already support us financially could you please consider increasing your standing order donation? Whatever amount you would like to give would be very much appreciated. Even a small increase, taken over a year, will make a big difference to our ongoing commitments. If you are not already supporting us financially on a regular basis and would like to help us benefit the schools and these young people who are hungry for higher education in order to make a difference in their country, then please set up a standing order through the standing order page on our website donation page. We can also provide a paper form if required. Any amount you donate will make a real difference to the future work of the Charity. Every penny you give goes straight to the schools, as the Charity has no overheads and is run by volunteers who pay their own expenses. We are entirely in your hands but I believe you will help if you can. Please don’t hesitate to call me if you wish to discuss further. My very best wishes. Sue Read |
Can you spare £5 per month? The students are eager to be educated and, as we are sure you will agree, education is the way forward for children to achieve their potential. Please consider making a regular donation by completing a standing order form and sending it to us. Please click on the link below, or contact us on any of the numbers given above. |
Mission Statement Founded in 2005, the Waterloo Schools Charity has done a great deal with your help to achieve its stated aim and vision: To advance the education of children in Waterloo, Sierra Leone, particularly but not exclusively those attending Waterloo Primary School and the Peninsula Secondary School, by the provision of financial assistance, equipment support and such other facilities as the trustees shall from time to time in their absolute discretion determine. |
