We hope that you enjoyed the last newsletter - quite a lot has happened since then and we are now able to let you know how things are at Waterloo. Your continued support has made it possible for us to put in place a repair and improvement programme at the three schools. Thanks to each and every one of you for making this possible. Also we want to put on record our thanks to the people on the ground out there for the work they put into the charity. In particular we would like to thank Morlai Kamara, Mabel Sawyerr, Kenneth Kromanty and indeed, one of our past students, Christopher Cole, now studying at Fourah Bay University in Freetown, who has sent us some up to date photographs of his old school.

1. As we informed you last year Ebola struck Sierra Leone and the community in Waterloo in a really dreadful way. We are supporting families, teachers and children now, and again thank you for making this possible by your generosity.

2. The Zoe Carss Education Trust, when they saw the deterioration of the fabric of the nursery school, made a very generous donation that enabled us to repair and improve the buildings and install toilets and a septic tank. A very big thank you to them! Our builder Augustine Moiba has again done a great job as you can see from the photographs!

3. Another building project completed since Ebola has been the inspection and repair work to existing roof coverings of the Primary School and making good ceilings, together with the repair and painting of walls, doors and windows to the classrooms.

4. The future of a country depends on the education of its children - this is a key tenet in the philosophy of our charity. For that reason we will, this year, be setting up a ‘Dr Read Bursary’ to enable promising students, once they have completed their education at the Senior Secondary School, to go on to university.

5. What Waterloo Schools Charity does is to help to educate children. The families they come from are subsistence farmers and workers who really cannot afford the school fees, cost of books and uniform and this is where we come in. If you ask a child what they want to do they will tell you "I want to go to school". The video shown here tells the story.

6. Fundraising Events

Saturday 2nd July - We are delighted that Tarantara Choir will be singing at St Peters Church, Inkberrow, to raise funds for Waterloo Schools - as they have done for us in the past.
